The Software Discovery service provides a registry for publishing and querying analysis software that is installed at a grid site. The functionality of this service is similar to the ClarensDiscoveryService for Web Services, but this service stores software installation information as opposed to Web Service information. Software publications can be performed at any instance of the Software Discovery service, and the publication will be automatically broadcast to all other instances of the Software Discovery service. This allows clients to locate software installations from any Software Discovery service instance, regardless of where the initial software publication took place. The Software Discovery service does not try to discover and publish locally installed software automatically; it only serves as a registry for software publications.
